Special Section: Everyday Life in the Covid-19 Present, Trinidad and Tobago

If you'd like to contribute to this special section please contact us!

We would like to continue, through words and images, with the everyday experiences in the Covid-19 present in T&T. We will maintain a focus on youth experiences and stories, specifically from persons 18-30 years of age of living in these coronavirus times in Trinidad and Tobago.

Public health concerns, for example, help us to recognise social inequalities as well as collective cooperation in our local spaces - the home, family, community - and how technology enables us to share these experiences during lockdowns. We also become more acutely aware of the inequalities of access to basic infrastructure, like internet and public utilities, such as clean water. Even connecting mobility with Covid-19 means that we recognise how our local and global mobilities are limited by border closures and restrictions on who can enter and exit countries as well as local spaces. But these regimes of mobility operate differently for the wealthy and poor, an ever-widening gap that is especially pernicious considering the uncertainties ahead.

We welcome sole- or group-written submissions of 200-300 words or image submissions on any theme or aspect of life during this pandemic. These are voluntary contributions. Contributors will work with the editors of the blog to edit their submissions and select images if more than one is submitted. There is no limit to the number of images that may be submitted, though not all may be accepted. Text and image submissions can be sent in separate files, within an email or via a link to an external site (for large files).

Image submissions can take the form of photographs or pictures, a photo-essay, or artwork.

All work must be your own. Contributors must have permission from any participants or collaborators to submit these written excerpts. If not, all names within the text should be fictitious.

For pictures, the contributor should also secure permissions for faces or small groups to be shown.

Please indicate in your submission whether you would like to be credited by name for your submission or if you would prefer an anonymous credit.

Submission date: Rolling

How to submit: Email Shelene Gomes, PhD (shelene.gomes@sta.uwi.edu) and Nirmal Maraj (nirmalmaraj@hotmail.com). We would be pleased to provide additional information, consider suggestions or answer any questions.
